What is the latest on US-Iran peace efforts?

The visit comes amid renewed efforts to break the deadlock in negotiations. The Wall Street JournalWall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that US Vice President JD Vance had sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei in an attempt to revive the stalled talks.

Tehran had received the message but had not yet responded, a senior Iranian official told the semi-official Fars News Agency on Thursday.

How did the US-Iran conflict begin?

The conflict began on 28 February, when the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Tehran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US positions across several Arab countries.

Washington and Tehran reached a framework agreement in June and subsequently began negotiations. The talks broke down over disagreements concerning freedom of navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies and trade.
