Abu Dhabi residents are advised to follow safety procedures ahead of rainfall and strong winds this week.

This comes a day after the Abu Dhabi Media Office announced that the emirate would experience rains and strong winds from Monday, Oct. 7, to Wednesday, Oct. 9. This includes Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

Residents are advised to take the following precautions:

  • Stay away from valleys (wadis), beaches and ponds.
  • Prepare first aid kits prepared in advance.
  • Drive carefully and follow modified speed limits as indicated on the road signs.
  • Ensure alternative light sources, such as torches and candles, are available.
  • Secure all loose materials to prevent them from being blown away.
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, connections and fittings.

An update from the Storm Centre said the outer areas of Dubai and Sharjah could expect rain on Monday, while thunderclouds are expected to form over Ras Al Khaimah and other eastern regions.

Hail and rain in eastern emirates

Several eastern emirates experienced hail and rain over the weekend, with yellow and orange alerts issued in many areas. The National Centre of Meteorology attributed the conditions to cloud seeding.

The Storm Centre shared several videos of weather conditions in emirates, mostly in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
