Saudi Arabia and United States to cooperate in space
Outlined areas of cooperation include space and earth sciences, aeronautics, space missions, and other fields
Saudi Arabia and the United States (U.S.) have signed an agreement to enhance bilateral cooperation in space and scientific exploration, boost joint investment in various commercial activities, and establish a comprehensive legal framework to facilitate collaboration.
The outlined areas of cooperation include space and earth sciences, aeronautics, space missions, education, and other fields of mutual interest.
Abdullah Alswaha, Chairman of the Saudi Space Agency, emphasized that this partnership marks a turning point in Saudi Arabia’s journey towards building a robust space sector, showcasing the Kingdom’s commitment to progress and innovation in space exploration.
“This agreement reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to advancing its position as a global partner in space exploration and scientific discovery,” said Alswaha.
Mohammed Altamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, highlighted the strategic partnership's role in identifying areas of mutual interest and fostering cooperative collaborations.
He stated that this collaboration would enhance national capabilities in aeronautics, space exploration, and space applications, allowing the Kingdom to seize scientific and technological opportunities and solidify its role as a key player both regionally and globally.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson expressed enthusiasm for the enhanced cooperation with Saudi Arabia, stating that "building on my visit to Saudi Arabia earlier this year, I look forward to strengthening our cooperation for the future of exploration."
"We are living in the golden era of exploration – one that is rooted in partnership. This new agreement outlines how we’ll work together and explore together for the benefit of humanity," he continued.
The agreement includes initiatives such as flight operations, balloon campaigns, scientific data exchange, and participation in joint workshops and meetings. It is expected to solidify future cooperation and unlock mutual benefits while enhancing Saudi Arabia’s standing in the global space sector.
Saudi Arabia’s space sector receives substantial support and empowerment from the leadership, recognizing its potential as a trillion-dollar economy and a catalyst for innovation. Through its ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom aims to cement its position in the space industry and its technological advancements.
