Relay for Life (RFL) returns to Sharjah for its fourth Middle East edition, set for 24 hours on Jan. 25-26 at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). The event will unite people from all walks of life to honor survivors, remember loved ones lost and raise vital funds for life-saving treatments.

Organized by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, every lap walked and donation made supports cancer patients and their families.

This year’s event will feature six dedicated zones filled with activities designed to engage participants of all ages.

Participants can walk the Track Zone, with each thematic lap offering an opportunity to connect, express themselves and embrace the spirit of Relay for Life. The Main Stage Zone will also host activities that bring people together to inspire and heal.

The General Activities Zone offers visitors classic games like tug-of-war, sack races, giant Jenga, foosball and air hockey for all ages. Meanwhile, in the Adults Workshops Zone, participants can create accessories, canvas art or intricate mosaic jar designs.

In the Kids Workshops Zone, children can enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, hair braiding, nail art design, glitter tattoos and face painting. The Kids Play Area Zone will be a haven for the youngest attendees, featuring bouncy castles and endless opportunities for fun and laughter.

This year’s Relay for Life aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. By joining the community of survivors, caregivers, volunteers and supporters, participants can help create a brighter future for cancer patients and their families.

Relay for Life started in the U.S. in May 1985 when colorectal surgeon Dr. Gordy Klatt aimed to raise cancer awareness and support his local charity. It has since grown into the world’s largest cancer fundraising event. The MENA region’s first Relay for Life was held in 2017, launched under the guidance of Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the ruler of Sharjah and founder of Friends of Cancer Patients.
