Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will meet U.S. President Donald Trump and a group of Islamic leaders in New York this week to discuss regional and international peace and security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.

The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which runs from Sept. 22-26. The ministry said the leaders will exchange views on key global challenges and conflicts.

Shehbaz will lead Pakistan’s delegation to the General Assembly, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, other ministers, and senior officials.

In his address to the General Assembly, the Pakistani prime minister is expected to urge the international community to resolve what Pakistan describes as prolonged occupations and denials of self-determination in Indian-administered Kashmir and in Palestine.

The Kashmir region has been a flashpoint between India and Pakistan since the two countries gained independence in 1947. Both nations claim the territory in full but administer separate portions. Pakistan continues to press the issue in international forums, particularly since India revoked the region’s special constitutional status in 2019.

PM Shehbaz will also spotlight the ongoing crisis in Gaza, where fighting has left thousands dead and millions displaced. He is expected to call for decisive international action to end the suffering of Palestinians.

In addition, the premier will present Pakistan’s perspective on broader global concerns, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the prime minister will attend several high-level events during his stay in New York. These include meetings of the UN Security Council, the High-Level Meeting of the Global Development Initiative, and a Special High-Level Event on Climate Action.

He will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and senior UN officials. These talks will cover issues of mutual interest, while Pakistan is expected to emphasize its role in promoting peace and prosperity.

Pakistan currently holds a nonpermanent seat on the UN Security Council. The ministry said Islamabad remains committed to working with member states to uphold the UN Charter, prevent conflicts, and advance global stability.

The ministry described the UN gathering as the world’s largest annual meeting of leaders. It said Sharif’s participation will demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, the United Nations, and to contributing toward peace and development.
