Softball is steadily gaining traction in Pakistan, with players setting their sights on qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The sport has seen increasing participation and competitive events, reflecting its growing popularity.

The KPT 7th National Men’s Softball Championship, organized by the Softball Federation of Pakistan, took place from October 23 to 25, 2024, at the KPT Football Stadium in Karachi. Hosted by the Sindh Softball Association, the tournament featured teams from Pakistan Army, Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the host team, Sindh.

In an impressive display of skill, the Pakistan Army clinched the championship title by overpowering Pakistan WAPDA in a dominant final match, winning 12-3. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured the bronze medal after a convincing 16-1 victory over Balochistan.

Earlier in 2024, the inaugural PNSC Inter-Provincial Women’s Softball Championship was also held at the KPT Sports Complex’s Football Stadium in Karachi from May 30 to June 1. Teams from Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh participated in the competition, marking a significant milestone for women’s softball in Pakistan.

Riccardo Fraccari, President of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), expressed optimism about the sport’s future in Pakistan. He emphasized that the successful organization of the first Inter-Provincial Women’s Softball Championship demonstrated the sport’s positive trajectory and increasing recognition.

In a video message to Softball Federation of Pakistan President Asif Azeem, Fraccari highlighted the event as a crucial step in promoting softball nationwide, particularly among female athletes.

With such promising developments, softball in Pakistan is set to reach new heights, inspiring players to aim for international recognition and, ultimately, a place at the LA Olympics in 2028.
