Sri Lanka bowl out Pakistan for 110 in tri-series clash

Shadab Khan, fresh from scoring his maiden ODI century against England in Pakistan’s previous outing, departed after scoring only two runs against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka’s pace-attack dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up, dismissing the hosts for just 110 in 25.3 overs during the fifth match of the ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Dilshan Madushanka led the charge with a five-wicket haul, while Asitha Fernando, Sahan Arachchige and the rest of the bowling unit kept Pakistan under constant pressure throughout their innings.

How did Sri Lanka make early inroads?

Pakistan endured another disappointing start after being put under pressure by Sri Lanka’s new-ball bowlers. Madushanka removed Fakhar Zaman for five off 13 deliveries in the fourth over, dealing the hosts their first setback.

Fernando followed up by dismissing Maaz Sadaqat, who managed eight from 11 balls, leaving Pakistan struggling at 23-2 after 6.2 overs.

Madushanka then struck again to send Saad Baig back to the pavilion for five, further deepening Pakistan’s troubles.

Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha attempted to rebuild the innings, but their partnership yielded only 15 runs before Arachchige dismissed Agha for nine off 14 deliveries.

Why did Pakistan fail to recover?

Babar briefly offered resistance with a 29-run knock from 33 balls, striking five boundaries. However, Eshan Malinga ended his stay at the crease, leaving Pakistan at 61-5 in 13.1 overs.

Shadab Khan, fresh from scoring his maiden ODI century against England in Pakistan’s previous outing, could not repeat that performance. He managed just two runs before falling to Arachchige, who claimed his second wicket.

Arafat Minhas and Hasan Nawaz tried to steady the innings, but Madushanka broke their efforts by dismissing Minhas for 10 off 18 balls.

Hasan contributed 17 from 31 deliveries, including a six, before Dunith Wellalage claimed his wicket, leaving Pakistan in further trouble at 91-8.

How did Madushanka complete his five-wicket haul?

Madushanka continued to dominate the lower order, dismissing Haris Rauf for one to move closer to a five-wicket haul.

Captain Shaheen Afridi provided some late resistance, striking a six as Pakistan crossed the 100-run mark in the 25th over. However, Madushanka ended the innings by removing Shaheen for 15 off 13 balls, including two sixes.
