Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in Miami on Saturday, the US Marshals Service confirmed to AFP. British authorities are seeking their extradition to face new charges including rape, sex trafficking and assault.
Why were the Tate brothers arrested?
The Tate brothers were arrested in Miami after UK prosecutors filed new charges against them. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the men face a combined 59 charges, including rape, trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offences involving indecent images of a child. British authorities say the arrest is a step toward extraditing both men to face trial.
What charges does each brother face?
Andrew Tate faces 42 charges and Tristan Tate faces 17, according to British authorities. Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS's Special Crime Division, said the decision to prosecute followed new evidence from Bedfordshire Police. That evidence reportedly brings the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven.
US Marshals said the arrest warrant itself was sealed, so they could not disclose additional details of the charges. TMZ footage showed officers placing both men in handcuffs and leading them to waiting vehicles. Tristan Tate did not respond when an onlooker asked if he had a comment, according to footage posted on X.
What happens next in the extradition process?
The CPS said it has formally requested the brothers' extradition from the United States. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, said in a statement that the Tates are innocent and expect to be cleared. McBride said he is confident a judge will see through what he called an abuse of authority once the facts are reviewed.
What other investigations do the Tate brothers face?
Earlier this year, police in Hertfordshire reopened a probe into rape and sexual assault allegations against Andrew Tate dating back to 2014 and 2015. Separate rape and trafficking allegations are also being investigated by Bedfordshire Police, which covers the brothers' hometown of Luton. The pair face additional accusations of tax evasion and money laundering in the UK.
In Romania, where the Tates have lived in recent years, they face allegations of trafficking minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. In March 2025, Florida opened a separate criminal investigation into the brothers, though the status of that inquiry remains unclear.
