The UAE has announced on an extension of the visa amnesty program by two months, now set to conclude on December 31, 2024.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) made the announcement on Thursday, WAM reported.

Initially launched on September 1, the program was scheduled to end on October 31 but has been extended to accommodate more residents seeking to regularize their visa status.

Thousands of residents have already benefited from this initiative, which waives millions in fines for those who have overstayed their visas. Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, the ICP director general, emphasized that the decision to extend the amnesty aligns with the UAE's celebration of the 53rd Union Day and reflects the country's humanitarian values.

"The extension comes in response to the appeals and aspirations of those who wish to either leave the country or obtain employment contracts and amend their residency status," Al Khaili stated.

He noted a significant increase in applications in the days leading up to the original deadline, indicating strong interest among violators to rectify their status.

"This extension is the last opportunity for violators to settle their status without incurring fines or facing re-entry bans," he added. The leniency of the program underscores ICP's commitment to providing support for individuals facing challenges and ensuring they can protect their families.

Al Khaili also highlighted a large turnout of individuals who have rectified their residency status during the amnesty period. However, he reiterated that fines will be reinstated for those who continue to violate residency rules after the extension concludes. The ICP plans to intensify inspection campaigns to address violations, with deportations and stricter measures in place for those who do not comply.

This amnesty program marks the fourth initiative of its kind launched by the UAE government since 2007. The previous amnesty in 2018 also experienced an extension, allowing more time for residency violators to correct their status without penalties.

Residents who wish to take advantage of this extended amnesty can apply at any ICP center across the UAE, approved typing centers, or through online channels. The opportunity to regularize visa status is a crucial step for many, ensuring they can continue to reside and work in the UAE legally.
