A UAE delegation has inaugurated a large-scale water pipeline delivering desalinated water from Emirati plants in Egypt to the Gaza Strip, offering a crucial lifeline for families facing acute shortages since the war began.

The project, carried out under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, was formally opened in Gaza in the presence of the mission’s support committee, officials from the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility, community representatives, and local leaders. With the launch, desalinated water officially began flowing from Egypt into southern Gaza, WAM reported.

Spanning 7.5 kilometers, the pipeline is the largest of its kind in the enclave. It carries about two million gallons of water daily - enough to serve more than one million residents. The line connects to the Al-Buraq reservoir in Khan Younis, which has a storage capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, helping extend clean water supplies to wider areas of Gaza.

This effort adds to a series of Emirati water initiatives in the territory, including the construction of six desalination plants, new reservoirs and tankers, and the upkeep of local wells. Together, these measures aim to ease the deepening water crisis that has left hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians without reliable drinking water.

Following the inauguration, journalists and community groups visited the pumping stations and distribution points to witness the operation of the new supply system.

The UAE described the project as part of its ongoing humanitarian mission to support Gaza’s population, reaffirming its leadership’s commitment to delivering life-sustaining assistance through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3.
