The UAE Aid Agency has signed a partnership agreement with International Medical Corps – UK to provide critical healthcare support to Sudanese communities affected by the recent surge in violence, WAM reported.

The collaboration focuses on the project “Emergency Response to the Crisis in Sudan”, with the UAE contributing US$2 million.

The signing ceremony took place at the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, attended by Dr. Tareq Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency. The agreement was formally signed by Rashid Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics at the UAE Aid Agency, and David Eastman, Managing Director of International Medical Corps – UK.

The initiative aims to reduce illness and mortality among conflict-affected populations through the deployment of mobile health and nutrition teams. Dr. Al Ameri highlighted the urgent need for medical support, noting that the recent escalation has displaced hundreds of thousands, including women-led households, unaccompanied children, and survivors of violence. “This agreement continues the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to Sudan, where it has already provided $784 million in aid since the conflict began over two and a half years ago,” he added.

David Eastman emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare in conflict zones: “For families impacted by years of unrest, basic medical care can be a matter of survival. International Medical Corps values its partnership with the UAE Aid Agency in reaching vulnerable communities, building on our two decades of experience in Sudan to deliver life-saving health services in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners.”

Under the project, three Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams - including one managed by a local partner - will deliver outpatient consultations, maternal and child health services, immunizations, nutrition screening and treatment, and community outreach for disease prevention and malnutrition detection.

The initiative will also strengthen emergency referral pathways for obstetric and gender-based violence care, supply essential medicines and nutrition commodities, and provide safe water to IDP settlements, prioritizing female- and child-headed households.

Additionally, hygiene and dignity kits, kitchen sets, blankets, and other essential household items will be distributed to the most vulnerable displaced families to improve living conditions and restore dignity amid ongoing displacement.
