UAE president attends BRICS Summit inaugurated by Russian president
This marks the UAE’s first participation in the summit as a BRICS member.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has arrived in Kazan, Russia, to participate in the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, held from October 22 to 24, 2024.
This is the UAE’s first time participating in the summit as an official member of the BRICS group.
With the theme of "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security," the summit brings together leaders and heads of government from BRICS nations, as well as representatives from invited states.

Sheikh Mohamed is accompanied by a delegation that includes Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court.
Before attending the summit, Sheikh Mohamed arrived in Russia on an official state visit, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed expressed gratitude for Putin’s commitment to strengthening UAE-Russia ties.
Putin, in turn, thanked the UAE for facilitating prisoner exchanges during the ongoing war in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of their "personal relations" in resolving key issues.
