UAE’s progress in women’s empowerment 'a model for others': Aseefa Bhutto
“Women have to work twice as hard for half the recognition as men,” says Aseefa Bhutto Zardari at the Global Women’s Forum Dubai
Speaking at the Global Women’s Forum Dubai (GWFD 2024), Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the First Lady of Pakistan, said global events like the GWFD are essential for shaping policies that encourage women to enter public service.
“The progress made in the UAE is a model for others to follow. There is a need for more platforms for women in public service to shine and make a difference,” she said.
Zardari encouraged young women to commit to uplifting others and pursuing justice, opportunity, and equality for all. "Seize opportunities and learn from the UAE’s example," she said.
“Women have to work twice as hard for half the recognition as men, but they are a strong, resilient force,” she added.
She highlighted the global challenges faced by women, including inequality, security, and access to healthcare and education, emphasizing the power of voting to make their voices heard.
A message to young women

Zardari is the youngest daughter of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari. She noted that this was the first time in Pakistan’s history that a daughter, rather than a wife, of an incumbent president has been formally given the title of First Lady.
"I have only recently become First Lady, as my father became president. As a widower, he decided to name his youngest daughter to the role to ensure strong representation for women and women's rights," she said.
"My message to young women is to believe in yourself, remain steadfast in your values, and never underestimate the power of your voice. Leadership is not about privilege or position. It’s shaped by purpose and persistence,” Zardari said.
“We must remember that the road ahead will be challenging, but we must embrace education, foster empathy, and commit ourselves to uplifting those around us. True leadership lies in service to others in the pursuit of justice, opportunity, and equality for all. My message to the younger generation is that you are the architects of a brighter future," she concluded.
Zardari meets with Sheikha Latifa
On the sidelines of the GWF 2024, Zardari also had a meeting with Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Member of the Dubai Council, and Member of The Executive Council of Dubai.
“We discussed avenues for joint cooperation between our two countries in various cultural fields and explored Dubai’s pioneering experience in preserving heritage and designing the future,” Sheikha Latifa wrote in an Instagram post.
The two also affirmed “the importance of supporting women in all their roles and aspirations, to harness the power of women's influence in our societies in the best possible way.”
