The UAE's first government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, UAEV, has announced the implementation of new tariffs for EV charging, set to take effect in January 2025.

The tariffs, introduced by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure earlier this year, mark a significant step towards enhancing the scalability and sustainability of the network while ensuring equitable access to EV infrastructure.

Since the tariffs were first unveiled in May, EV users have enjoyed free charging services. This transition to a tariff-based model underscores UAEV’s commitment to operational excellence and alignment with the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future. The standardized fees include AED 1.2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) plus VAT for DC fast chargers and AED 0.70 per kWh plus VAT for AC chargers, promising transparent and consistent pricing for EV drivers across the nation.

Enhancing EV driver experience

In addition to the new tariff structure, UAEV is introducing a suite of innovative solutions to enhance the EV charging experience. A user-friendly mobile application will provide key features such as locating nearby charging stations, live status updates, and streamlined payment options. The app aims to simplify navigation through the growing EV charging network, empowering users with convenient tools for their journeys.

To complement the app, UAEV will also launch a 24/7 customer support center, ensuring that drivers receive instant assistance and guidance at any time. This initiative reflects UAEV’s focus on reliability and user satisfaction.

“This marks a transformative step in the UAE’s journey towards sustainable transportation,” said H.E. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV. “The implementation of standardized charging tariffs and the launch of innovative solutions like the UAEV app and 24/7 support reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing the EV driver experience. By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are driving a cleaner, greener future for all.”

Building a nationwide EV charging network

UAEV has ambitious plans to expand its infrastructure significantly in the coming years. By 2030, the network aims to include 1,000 charging stations strategically positioned across urban centers, highways, and transit hubs throughout the UAE.

These locations will provide seamless accessibility for both inter-city and intra-city EV drivers, fostering confidence in the transition to electric mobility.

The network will also focus on high-speed charging solutions, real-time network monitoring, and station reliability, ensuring drivers can depend on UAEV for their charging needs.

Aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, UAEV is not just building a network but also advocating for green mobility and carbon reduction. By integrating cutting-edge technology and prioritizing accessibility, UAEV positions itself as a key player in driving the UAE’s green transition.
