The Endowments and Minors’ Affairs Trust Foundation (AWQAF Dubai) is developing an eco-friendly mall designed to generate sustainable revenue for approximately 50 mosques in Dubai that currently lack dedicated endowments. The mall will be located in the Al Khawaneej area.

This initiative is a cornerstone of the ‘Mosques Endowment’ campaign, aligned with Dubai’s broader strategy to foster community solidarity and charitable giving.

The 165,000 square feet mall will feature a mix of diverse retail outlets, a medical center, various dining options, fitness facilities, essential services and green spaces. To minimise environmental impact, the mall is being built to the highest green building standards, incorporating sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies. Solar and renewable energy sources will be harnessed to power the facility, while innovative solutions will be implemented to conserve resources and enhance indoor air quality.

An estimated construction cost of AED 40 million is expected to be offset by annual revenues of AED 8 million, which will be dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of the designated mosques.

Ali Mohammed Al Mutawa, secretary-general of AWQAF Dubai, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its alignment with Dubai's vision for expanding endowments and fostering community involvement in charitable initiatives.

He emphasised the project's potential to become a model for sustainable mosque support, encouraging government agencies, private organizations, and individuals to contribute to its success.

The mall is anticipated to become a community hub, offering essential services while generating funds for a vital religious and social institution.
