The Kremlin confirmed Thursday that U.S. negotiators are traveling to Russia as Washington pushes for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.

Kyiv accepted the U.S.-backed proposal after talks in Saudi Arabia earlier this week, but Moscow has requested more details before responding.

"Negotiators are flying in, and indeed contacts are scheduled," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, without naming the U.S. representatives.

The White House previously stated that Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s envoy and mediator in the Gaza and Ukraine conflicts, would travel to Moscow this week.

Peskov added that Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov spoke by phone with U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz a day earlier.

Moscow has indicated that any ceasefire agreement should include discussing lifting Western sanctions, as economic strains persist.

Peskov called the sanctions “illegal” but declined to say whether they would be part of the upcoming talks.

"Let us not get ahead of ourselves," he said.
