A Houthi projectile injured at least six people in a residential area of Najran, southern Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, the kingdom's civil defense agency said. The strike landed near the border with Yemen as fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis has sharply escalated.
How many people were injured in the Houthi strike on Najran?
Six citizens were injured, and three homes and three vehicles were damaged, according to Saudi civil defense. The agency said it responded to an "enemy projectile" launched by the Houthi militia at a residential site in Najran, near the Yemen border.
"On Sunday, civil defense in the city of Najran responded to the fall of an enemy projectile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia at a residential site, resulting in six citizens being injured and material damage to three homes and three vehicles," the civil defense said on X.
For weeks, the Houthis have targeted airports and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia on a near daily basis.
What happened in the Saudi airstrike in Yemen?
Earlier on Sunday, an alleged Saudi airstrike in Yemen killed at least nine people and wounded 16 others, Houthi media reported. The Houthi-run Saba news agency said the strike hit a home in Saada governorate in Yemen's north.
Saba said the airstrike "led to the martyrdom of nine and the injury of 16 others, most of them women and children," adding that the toll was not final. According to the Houthis, Saudi strikes since the beginning of September have killed scores of people.
How has the fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis escalated?
The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis has launched hundreds of raids in Yemen, backing the internationally recognized government, since the renewed fighting began. The conflict, dormant for years, erupted again in July and intensified after the Houthis seized the country's Red Sea coast last month.
The Houthis have repeatedly attacked Saudi targets in recent weeks, including vessels in the Red Sea, oil facilities and Riyadh's international airport. Thirteen people were killed in a single attack on the airport last week.
