Music streaming platform Deezer announced Friday that one in 10 tracks uploaded to its service daily is either fake or noise created by artificial intelligence programs.

The Paris-based company said its fraud detection technologies, implemented in 2023, uncovered around 10,000 AI-generated tracks uploaded daily to the platform. These tracks account for approximately 10% of daily uploads.

The detection system's success, which identifies AI content without extensive database training, prompted Deezer to file for two patents last month.

The move is part of Deezer’s broader effort to protect genuine musicians. Many fraudulent tracks mimic popular songs or clone the voices of well-known artists, which currently lack copyright protection.

"Artificial intelligence is continuing to disrupt the music ecosystem more and more," said Alexis Lanternier, Deezer's chief executive, in a statement.

To combat AI-generated tracks, Deezer plans to develop a labeling system that would exclude such content from its recommended listening lists. The company also aims to eliminate fraudulent accounts that exploit fake streams to generate undeserved royalties.

Deezer has been adjusting its remuneration model to ensure fairer payments to artists. In January, the platform introduced changes to benefit musicians whose tracks have fewer downloads but attract a diverse audience base.

The streaming giant’s measures reflect growing concerns over AI’s impact on the music industry.

By targeting AI-generated content, Deezer hopes to maintain the integrity of its platform and ensure genuine artists receive fair recognition and compensation.
