A Pakistani court on Thursday granted bail to Shershah Khan, a nephew of jailed opposition leader Imran Khan, in a case linked to violent protests that broke out after the former prime minister’s arrest in 2023.
Judge Manzar Ali Gill of an anti-terrorism court in Lahore approved bail against a surety bond of PKR 100,000 (about $360).
Shershah Khan, the son of Aleema Khan — Imran Khan’s sister who has been leading calls for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader’s release — was arrested outside his home in Lahore late last month and jailed pending trial for 13 days.
His lawyer, Taimur Malik, confirmed the bail order in a post on X.
The decision came a day after Shershah’s brother, Shahrez Khan, was also granted bail in a similar case.
Both cases stem from the May 9, 2023 riots, when protesters stormed and vandalized military and government sites, including the historic Jinnah House in Lahore, after Imran Khan was taken into custody.
The government described the unrest as one of the gravest challenges to state authority in recent years, and hundreds of PTI members and leaders were detained nationwide.
