Pakistani singer Asim Azhar recently celebrated a major milestone after his latest track Aarzu became his second-highest-charting song on Spotify India. Sharing the achievement on Instagram, the singer thanked his fans for their unwavering support, highlighting how music continues to find listeners beyond geographical and political boundaries.
Interestingly, Asim's success comes at a time when another cross-border conversation has emerged around Indian actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh. His film Satluj was reportedly removed from ZEE5 just two days after its release. The film tells the story of *Jaswant Singh Khalra*, the Indian Sikh human rights activist who exposed thousands of alleged illegal killings and secret cremations linked to the Punjab police before being abducted and murdered in 1995. Six Punjab police officials were later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime.
Responding to the ban, Diljit said he was not surprised given the sensitive subject matter but was grateful that Khalra's story reached audiences, even if only briefly.
The contrast is difficult to ignore. While a Pakistani artist is climbing the music charts in India through streaming platforms, a film based on an Indian human rights activist faces restrictions in its own country.
Yet audiences continue to prove that borders cannot easily confine compelling stories and meaningful music. Pakistani dramas regularly trend among Indian viewers, while Indian music enjoys immense popularity in Pakistan.
Politics may divide nations, but creativity continues to unite people. At its core, great art speaks a universal language, one that transcends passports, ideologies and boundaries.
