Bangladesh scripted history by defeating Pakistan by 78 runs in the second and final Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, completing a 2-0 series whitewash. It is Bangladesh's first-ever home Test series clean sweep against Pakistan, sealed on day five as disciplined bowling proved too strong for the visitors.
How did Bangladesh complete the historic whitewash over Pakistan?
Bangladesh bowled Pakistan out for 358, falling 78 runs short of their 437-run target. Taijul Islam led the attack with six wickets, while Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared the remaining four. Pakistan showed resistance across two days but could never build enough partnerships to make the target realistic.
How did the final day unfold in Sylhet?
The fifth day began after a brief rain interruption, with Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan resuming Pakistan's chase. The pair added 54 runs and pushed Pakistan past the 350-run mark, keeping Bangladesh waiting for a breakthrough. Sajid made 28 off 36 balls, striking five boundaries, before Taijul broke the stand with a decisive wicket.
Shoriful Islam then removed Rizwan for a fighting 94 off 166 balls, a knock that included 10 boundaries and kept Pakistan's hopes alive deep into the final session. With Rizwan gone, the tail offered little resistance. Taijul wrapped up the innings by dismissing Khurram Shahzad for a duck, finishing with outstanding figures of 6 for 120 in 34.2 overs.
What happened during Pakistan's chase on day four?
Pakistan's chase began poorly before showing signs of recovery. Openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal started cautiously, but Nahid Rana removed Fazal for six and Mehidy dismissed Azan for 21, leaving Pakistan at 41 for 2. Babar Azam and captain Shan Masood steadied the innings with a partnership that carried the side past 100, before Bangladesh's bowlers struck again through Taijul and Rana.
Pakistan's best passage of play came through a 134-run sixth-wicket stand between Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha. Salman contributed 71 off 102 balls, including six fours and a six, before Taijul dismissed him to trigger another collapse. Babar had earlier made an aggressive 47 from 52 balls, while Shan compiled a composed 71 off 116 before falling.
How did Bangladesh set up such a commanding target?
Bangladesh recovered from a precarious 116 for 6 in their first innings to post 278, thanks to a brilliant 126 from Litton Das. Pakistan replied with 232, conceding a 46-run deficit despite Babar Azam's 68. Bangladesh then strengthened their grip in the second innings, with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring a magnificent 137 as the hosts declared on 390, setting Pakistan an imposing 437-run target that ultimately proved beyond them.
