Belarus President Lukashenko arrives in Pakistan on three-day visit
PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomes President Lukashenko at Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi; visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a three-day official visit, aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and defense.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally welcomed Lukashenko at the PAF Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi.
Senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, were also present to greet the distinguished guest.
High-level delegation in tow
Lukashenko’s visit follows the arrival of a 68-member Belarusian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov, on Sunday. The group includes eight cabinet ministers and 43 business leaders, underscoring Belarus’ strong interest in bolstering trade and investment ties with Pakistan.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Additional Secretary for Foreign Affairs Shafqat Ali Khan welcomed the delegation at Islamabad International Airport. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan, was also present.
Strengthening partnerships
During the visit, Lukashenko is scheduled to meet with PM Shehbaz for one-on-one talks, followed by delegation-level discussions. Both countries will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in key areas, including agriculture, trade, science and technology, and pharmaceuticals.
A comprehensive trade roadmap will be unveiled, focusing on joint production of electric buses, agricultural machinery, and tractors. The visit will also address cooperation in investment, security, and defense, signaling a shared commitment to a robust strategic partnership.
A new chapter in relations
"This visit reflects the growing and dynamic partnership between Belarus and Pakistan," read a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
President Lukashenko’s trip is expected to mark a new chapter in bilateral relations, laying the groundwork for collaborative projects that leverage economic and technological synergies.
