On April 7, 2025, the Sindh High Court issued a stay order against the water availability certificate provided by IRSA for the Cholistan Canal project, halting all related activities.

This decision may also delay the Sindh government’s efforts to resolve the water dispute through the Council of Common Interests (CCI), as the CCI meeting was based on the now-suspended certificate.

In an exclusive interview with Nukta’s Special Correspondent Akhtiar Khokar, Senator Barrister Zamir Ghumro, counsel for the applicant, discussed the court order’s implications and its potential impact on the ongoing anti-canal movement in Sindh.
