Motorists in Dubai face parking fines ranging from Dh100 ($27) to Dh10,000 ($2,723), depending on the violation and type of parking facility, Gulf News reported.

Parkin, Dubai’s public parking operator, penalizes motorists for offences including unpaid parking fees, overstaying, obstructing traffic, misusing reserved spaces and tampering with parking equipment.

The following guide outlines the penalties and explains how motorists can check and pay fines online, based on information available as of October 15.

How much are Dubai parking fines?

Fines for roadside and designated plot parking start at Dh100 for exceeding the permitted parking time or using an expired ticket. Parking without paying the fee or failing to display a ticket when required carries a Dh150 fine.

Other violations attract higher penalties. Disrupting the use of public parking spaces, parking on pavements or using prohibited areas can result in a Dh200 fine. Unauthorized use of reserved parking spaces, displaying vehicles for sale or rent without a permit, and damaging parking facilities can incur fines of Dh1,000. Moving or removing public parking signs or equipment without authorization carries a Dh10,000 penalty.

The amount varies according to the location, nature of the offence and applicable parking regulations.

What are the roadside and designated parking lot fines in Dubai?

For roadside and designated plot parking, motorists face a Dh100 fine for exceeding the maximum permitted parking time or using a space after their ticket has expired. Failure to pay the parking fee or display a ticket prominently when required carries a Dh150 penalty.

A Dh200 fine applies to disrupting the use of public parking spaces, driving or parking on a pavement, and parking in a prohibited area.

More serious violations can attract fines of Dh1,000. These include parking a vehicle without a number plate, using spaces reserved for People of Determination without a valid permit or failing to display the permit, and occupying spaces reserved for other users without authorization or a displayed permit.

The same penalty applies to displaying vehicles for sale or rent without a permit, installing a shade over a public parking space without permission, and damaging parking facilities or tampering with parking machines, equipment or signs.

Moving or removing public parking signs or equipment without the required permit carries a Dh10,000 fine.

What are the fines for multi-story parking in Dubai?

Different penalties apply at multi-story public car parks. Losing a parking ticket or the electronic card used to record entry time carries a Dh150 fine.

Motorists can be fined Dh200 for parking outside designated spaces, parking in prohibited areas, leaving a vehicle beyond marked bay lines, double-parking or obstructing traffic and parking operations. This includes blocking entrances and exits. Polluting the parking premises also carries a Dh200 penalty.

Exceeding the maximum authorized parking time or entering a car park in a vehicle that exceeds the permitted height can result in a Dh500 fine.

A Dh1,000 penalty applies to evading parking fees, using spaces reserved for People of Determination without a permit or failing to display one, parking in spaces reserved for other users, and damaging parking facilities or tampering with machines, equipment or signs.

What are the penalties for repeat parking violations in Dubai?

Parkin imposes escalating fines for certain violations involving public parking occupancy, permit conditions, equipment, authorization and cooperation with inspectors.

Working in or occupying public parking without a Parkin occupancy permit carries a Dh2,500 fine for a first violation, rising to Dh5,000 for a second offence and Dh10,000 for a third or subsequent violation.

Breaching the conditions of an occupancy permit attracts a Dh1,000 fine for a first offence, Dh2,500 for a second and Dh5,000 for a third or subsequent violation.

Damaging public parking facilities or tampering with equipment and signs carries fines of Dh2,500 for a first offence, Dh5,000 for a second and Dh10,000 for a third or subsequent violation.

Failing to display a Parkin authorization or occupancy permit attracts a Dh500 fine for a first violation, Dh1,000 for a second and Dh2,000 for a third or subsequent offence.

Falsely indicating that a public parking space is reserved or that parking is prohibited carries fines of Dh2,500 for a first offence, Dh5,000 for a second and Dh10,000 for a third or subsequent violation.

Motorists who obstruct Parkin inspectors or fail to cooperate face a Dh1,000 fine for a first violation, Dh2,000 for a second and Dh4,000 for a third or subsequent offence.

Other violations carry fixed or daily penalties. Moving or removing parking machines or signs without authorization can result in a Dh10,000 fine. The same penalty applies to using the Dubai Parking name, signs, images or system components for commercial purposes without a permit, and conducting economic activities in public parking areas without authorization.

Delaying the reinstallation of parking displays or signs beyond Parkin’s deadline, or failing to provide written notice of their reinstallation, can attract a fine of Dh100 per day, up to a maximum of Dh5,000.

How can motorists check and pay Dubai parking fines online?

Motorists can check and pay outstanding fines through the Parkin website or mobile app.

On the website, drivers can visit parkin.ae and select “Pay Fines” on the homepage. They must then enter the vehicle’s emirate, plate category, plate code and plate number. Alternatively, they can search using their traffic file number or fine number.

After selecting “Next”, motorists can review outstanding fines, check the details of each violation and select the penalty they wish to pay. They can then proceed through the summary and contact details sections, choose a payment method and complete the transaction.

Drivers can also use the Parkin app, available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. After signing in, including through UAE Pass where available, they can open the parking fines section and search using their vehicle’s number plate details, driving license number, traffic file number or fine number.

Once the outstanding penalties are displayed, motorists can review the violation details, select the fine and follow the payment instructions to complete the transaction.

The app also allows users to manage parking sessions and subscriptions.
