Dubai Police reported 94 accidents in the past six months alone, stemming from infractions including dangerous reversing, driving against the traffic flow, and failure to adhere to mandatory lanes.

Among these accidents, 64 were attributed to drivers not following the designated lanes. Driving against the flow of traffic caused 14 accidents, while another 16 resulted from motorists disregarding mandatory lanes.

Brigadier Jumaa bin Suwaidan of Dubai Police emphasized the severity of these violations, noting they pose a significant threat to public safety. Accidents resulting from such violations are particularly dangerous as they involve two vehicles moving in opposite directions towards a collision point.

When it comes to ensuring road safety, there can be no compromises. Motorists in Dubai are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law, which enforces strict penalties for violations.

Here are some of the most serious traffic violations in Dubai:

  • Driving against traffic carries a fine of AED 600 and incurs six traffic points on the driver's record.
  • Similarly, engaging in dangerous reversing may result in a fine of AED 500 and four traffic points.
  • Neglecting to follow the mandatory lanes designated for light vehicles could lead to a fine of AED 400.

Reflecting on the past year, a total of 177 traffic accidents were recorded. Among these, 113 were attributed to drivers failing to adhere to mandatory lanes, with 28 accidents caused by driving against the traffic flow and 36 due to non-compliance with mandatory lanes.
