Egypt says Israel responsible for consequences of banning UNRWA
Israeli parliament has declared UNRWA a 'terrorist organization', triggering international backlash
Egypt has condemned in the strongest terms Israel's withdrawal from the agreement regulating the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the cessation of its work, WAM reported.
In a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt stressed that this unacceptable decision comes after a new chapter of flagrant and systematic Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
It added that the decision constitutes a dangerous development through which Israel aims to liquidate the Palestinian cause and the refugee issue, including the right of return.
The foreign ministry statement continued that the Israeli decision constitutes an unacceptable disregard for the United Nations, its agencies, and the international community.
This comes days after the Israeli parliament, known as the Knesset, voted to declare the UN agency for Palestinian refugees a terror organization, banning it from operating in Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Consequently, the Israel decision triggered international backlash by several countries that had accused Israel of not offering no alternative route for aid, including an official condemnation by the UAE.
