FBR misses May tax collection target by PKR 203 billion
FBR must collect PKR 2.1 trillion in June to meet the revised annual tax target of PKR 12.33 trillion

Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected PKR 907 billion (USD 3.25 billion) in May 2025, falling short of its assigned target of PKR 1,110 billion (USD 3.98 billion), the government reported.
This marks a sharp shortfall of PKR 203 billion (USD 730 million) for the month.
For the July-May period of the 2024-25 fiscal year, the FBR gathered PKR 10,213 billion (USD 36.6 billion) against the target of PKR 11,240 billion (USD 40.3 billion), showing a cumulative shortfall of PKR 1,027 billion (USD 3.7 billion).
The revenue gap has worsened over recent months. The shortfall stood at PKR 703 billion by July-March 2025, rising to PKR 821 billion by July-April, and now reaching PKR 1,027 billion after May.
The FBR faces a tough challenge ahead since it must collect PKR 2,121 billion (USD 7.6 billion) in June, the final month of the fiscal year, to meet the revised annual target.
Earlier, the government cut the FBR’s annual tax collection target from PKR 12,913 billion to PKR 12,334 billion (USD 44.1 billion to USD 42.1 billion) for the 2024-25 year.
