The postmortem report of nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, killed in a firing incident in Chakwal on June 10, has confirmed she sustained 11 bullet wounds and died from hypovolemic shock caused by severe internal bleeding.

The child, an Australian-Pakistani national from Perth, was shot when CCD personnel allegedly opened fire on her family's vehicle, mistaking it for a getaway car during a robbery response.

What did Hania Ahmed's postmortem report find?

The report documented 11 bullet entry and exit wounds and found critical injuries to the lungs, liver and intestines, which caused rapid and catastrophic blood loss.

The primary cause of death was hypovolemic shock leading to cardiopulmonary arrest. A metal bullet fragment was recovered from the body and handed over to police as forensic evidence.

Investigators recorded the injuries as ante-mortem, confirming Hania was alive when she was struck.

The report noted that the trauma, including a fractured right femur and severe chest bleeding, would under normal circumstances lead to near-immediate death. Physicians estimated that six to eight hours passed between the time of death and the postmortem examination.

Hospital authorities sealed blood-stained clothing, X-rays and other forensic material before transferring them to police for further investigation.

How did the Chakwal CCD firing incident unfold?

The incident occurred on the night of June 10 when Hania's family, her father Adeel Ahmed, mother Dr Sidra Khan and brother Aafan, were visiting relatives in Chakwal after returning from Hajj. The family had travelled from Australia and was using a rented vehicle.

Two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted the car and robbed the family of jewellery worth approximately 500,000 rupees at gunpoint. A CCD officer who witnessed the robbery opened fire on the suspects, who allegedly returned fire before fleeing. During the exchange, CCD personnel reportedly mistook the family's vehicle for the attackers and continued firing, later pursuing the car on motorcycles.

Adeel Ahmed managed to drive to a relative's home before losing control and crashing into the gate. Hania was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Chakwal, where she was pronounced dead. Her father and brother were later transferred to Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi.

What is the status of the investigation and legal proceedings?

Police arrested the CCD officer allegedly responsible for the firing and added murder charges to the First Information Report. The weapon used in the incident has been recovered and the suspect placed on judicial remand. The investigation has been transferred from the local police station, and a Joint Investigation Team has been formed to examine the full sequence of events.

The two alleged robbers involved in the initial robbery were killed in a separate encounter, police said. CCD officials visited the family and assured them of full cooperation in the probe.

What happened at the Lahore High Court hearing?

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday (today) heard a miscellaneous petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the Chakwal incident and ordered it to be fixed alongside the main case already before the court. Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry observed that the matter appeared to fall within the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi.

Petitioner's counsel Azhar Siddiq argued the case was linked to a broader constitutional challenge regarding the establishment of the CCD, which the court is already considering.

The petition, filed by the Judicial Activism Panel, seeks a transparent inquiry, inclusion of the victim's family in the Joint Investigation Team, and judicial oversight of the probe.

What has Hania Ahmed's family said?

Adeel Ahmed has been discharged from hospital, while his son Aafan remains under treatment in Rawalpindi. Dr Sidra Khan was not injured in the incident.

In an audio message circulated from hospital, Adeel Ahmed alleged that CCD personnel opened heavy fire on the family's vehicle and called for accountability over his daughter's death and the injuries sustained by his family.
