Senior Houthi leadership issued an explicit warning to Washington on Monday, October 12, threatening a "swift and painful response" targeting US regional assets if American forces enter direct military action alongside Saudi Arabia in Yemen.

How did Houthi leadership frame threats against potential US intervention and Saudi transit hubs?

Speaking in an interview with AFP, Houthi political bureau member Mohammed Al Bukhaiti declared that the movement would not deliberate before striking US targets across the Middle East should Washington launch military operations against Yemen.

Bukhaiti cautioned that cross-border campaigns are designed to convey that Saudi leadership cannot wage war from a safe position, issuing an urgent warning to employees and workers to immediately evacuate Saudi airports and oil facilities, which he designated as legitimate targets.

The warning arrived after US President Donald Trump indicated that the White House is evaluating joint military strikes alongside Saudi Arabia following Saturday's attack on King Khalid International Airport, which left 13 people dead and over 300 injured.

Describing Houthi conduct as unacceptable, Trump confirmed plans to confer directly with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding US participation in retaliatory operations. In Riyadh, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman emphasized that recent attacks have rigorously tested national resilience, pledging an equally serious response.

What security measures and international flight suspensions followed the latest strikes?

Tensions escalated across the Kingdom on Monday night as emergency sirens and mobile alerts warned Riyadh residents of hostile aerial threats before the Saudi-led coalition shot down an incoming missile over the capital. Coalition forces separately intercepted and destroyed two Houthi ballistic missiles targeting military installations in the southern border city of Khamis Mushait.

With operations at King Khalid International Airport remaining suspended, regional aviation faced extensive disruptions. Regional and international carriers—including Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, and US operator Delta—announced flight suspensions and route postponements into Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah. Concurrently, the US Embassy in Riyadh advised American citizens to exercise heightened caution and required government employees to secure diplomatic clearance before using any airport in the Kingdom.

According to Al Jazeera and Arab News, regional partners and United Nations officials have urged restraint to prevent a wider escalation across Red Sea and Gulf shipping routes.
