ICC Board to reconvene tomorrow for further discussion on Champions Trophy 2025
According to sources, the ICC Board meeting was conducted virtually on Friday which was attended by all member countries.
After some initial discussions on the next year’s Champions Trophy in the ICC Board virtual meeting held on Friday, it was decided that further debate on the matter will be held on Saturday (tomorrow).
According to sources, the ICC Board meeting was conducted virtually on Friday which was attended by all member countries.
Sources said that Pakistan’s stance that the entire Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan remains the same. However, further discussions will be held on the matter on Saturday.
Sources said that the ICC is trying to find out some ‘plausible solution’ of the pressing matter which kept the entire cricketing fraternity confused for the last few weeks.
A source said that some formulas are expected to come up on Saturday.
Sources added that Naqvi has out rejected the hybrid model while briefing the board.
Naqvi, also Pakistan's interior minister, is in Dubai and he attended the meeting virtually from there.
Sources claim that he rushed to the UAE on Thursday and held a marathon meeting with top ICC officials in order to convince them that the event should be entirely held in Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is supposed to host in February-March 2025 at three different venues, was hit hard recently when India conveyed its message to the ICC that it will not be sending its team to Pakistan.
The PCB then also asked ICC about the reason due to which India decided not to send its team.
In a recent media talk, Naqvi had categorically stated that it cannot happen that Pakistan will play cricket in India and India will not play cricket in Pakistan.
Sources said that India is making hectic efforts to take the event to any other country. The deadlock has also caused major uncertainty and this has also put the broadcasters in a fix. Because of the issue the ICC has also not yet announced the event’s schedule which is normally unveiled 100 days before the event.
