A Pakistani court on Friday granted police another week to locate a senior official from Pakistan’s National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) who has been missing for 10 days, along with his wife who disappeared shortly after filing a petition for his recovery.
Deputy Director Usman was reportedly abducted from the parking lot of his residence in Islamabad on October 14. Three days later, his wife, Rozina, registered a police complaint on October 17 and subsequently filed a habeas corpus petition in the Islamabad High Court.
However, according to her lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, Rozina herself went missing a day later on October 18 and has not been heard since.
During today’s hearing, the Capital Police’s DSP Legal informed the Islamabad High Court that Usman had been leading an investigation into a high-profile case involving social media influencer Ducky Bhai.
The officer added that four to five other NCCIA officials connected to the same inquiry were also currently unaccounted for.
Police told the court that Rozina’s last known location was traced to Lahore, where her residence was found locked and her phone switched off. Meanwhile, the missing officer’s final mobile signal was detected in Islamabad’s F-6 area, with CCTV footage from nearby locations under review.
Presiding Judge Justice Azam Khan stressed that the purpose of the proceedings was to resolve the case rather than merely set dates, instructing police to obtain WhatsApp records, geofencing data, and travel logs to aid in the search for the missing couple.
Police requested an additional seven days to analyze digital evidence and continue the investigation. The court granted the extension, setting October 31 as the new deadline for submission of a progress report.
