Saudi Arabia has launched the "In the Prophet’s Steps" project, designed to recreate the historic path traveled by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during his migration from Mecca to Medina. The initiative offers visitors a chance to deeply engage with this momentous journey.
The project features a 470-kilometer route connecting Mecca and Medina, with 305 kilometers available for walking. It will restore 41 historic sites and feature five interactive stations highlighting key events from the Prophet’s migration. A dedicated Migration Museum will also offer insights into this critical period in Islamic history.

The route includes eight stations to provide a deeper understanding of the migration journey. With more than 30 dining options and 50 retail shops, the project aims to enhance the visitor experience. Designed to accommodate up to 12,000 guests daily, the initiative combines historical significance, spirituality, and modern conveniences, offering an unforgettable journey.
Prince Salman bin Sultan, Emir of Medina, emphasized the leadership’s commitment to preserving Islamic heritage, stating, “This project stands as a clear testament to our leadership’s dedication to preserving the Islamic legacy. It offers visitors the chance to trace the Prophet’s journey and visit the landmarks tied to his migration."
Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030
The "In the Prophet’s Steps" project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to preserve and promote Islamic history. It complements transformative projects like “The Line,” a groundbreaking urban development focused on well-being and environmental sustainability. This synergy demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s ability to blend historical significance with modern advancements.

Alongside the main project, Saudi Arabia has hosted exhibitions like “Hijrah: In the Footsteps of the Prophet.” This exhibition blends contemporary and Islamic art with historical artifacts, films, and performances, offering new perspectives on the Prophet’s migration within a modern framework.
Developed with input from historical and governmental organizations to ensure accuracy, the "In the Prophet’s Steps" project is set to officially open in November for a six-month run. The experience aims to provide a profound journey that intertwines history, spirituality, and cultural depth.
By merging spiritual significance with modernity, the "In the Prophet’s Steps" project invites visitors from around the world to explore Saudi Arabia’s sacred history.
This initiative not only highlights the Kingdom’s role in safeguarding Islamic heritage but also reinforces its ambitions to grow its tourism sector.
