Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has thrown his weight behind tape ball cricket, praising the growing popularity and competitiveness of the format.

Speaking exclusively to Nukta at the final of the Tape Ball Premier League in Naya Nazimabad, Inzamam welcomed the tournament’s success, noting how it reflects the evolving landscape of grassroots cricket in Pakistan.

He said that during his own playing days, even hard ball club tournaments never offered prize money as high as PKR million. He was particularly impressed by the large crowd turnout and the fan following of top tape ball players, calling it a positive sign for Pakistan’s cricketing future.

The final of the Tape Ball Premier League Season Two saw SH Packages defeat CE Sports by five wickets. Batting first, CE Sports posted 155 for 3 in eight overs, with Muhammad Osama smashing 70 off just 24 balls.

SH Packages chased down the target in 7.5 overs, led by Captain Asad Shah’s blistering 52 off 13 balls. Fahad Mian Channu added 49, while Taimoor Mirza chipped in with 33.

Chief organizer Khurram Majeed attended the final as the special guest, while Syed Muhammad Talha, President of New Nazimabad Gymkhana, awarded the winners with PKR 5 million and a trophy. The runner-up team received PKR 2 million. The match was watched by a large crowd, including former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who showed his support for the players.

Towards the end of the evening, Inzamam also welcomed the news of a Pakistan-India clash in the upcoming Asia Cup. He said such high-profile matches between arch-rivals are always appreciated and that continued cricketing ties could pave the way for improved relations and dialogue between the two countries.
