K-Electric's industrial electricity consumption reached a record 6.08 billion units in fiscal year 2026, rising 20% from a year earlier as Pakistan's economy expanded by 3.7%, reflecting a rebound in industrial activity and growing reliance on the national grid.
The utility said industrial consumption surpassed the previous record of 5.84 billion units set in FY22, when Pakistan's economy grew by more than 6%.
"This achievement cannot be viewed in isolation. It reflects the collective efforts of the Government of Pakistan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and Karachi's industrial community, whose continued support has helped foster a stable and conducive business environment for investment and economic growth," K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Syed Muhammad Taha said.
"Karachi remains central to Pakistan's industrial and commercial progress. KE has provided industries with load-shedding-exempt power supply since 2013, and we are committed to continuing our role in powering that growth through reliable and sustainable electricity."
K-Electric's industrial feeders supply electricity to manufacturing units across multiple industrial zones through a network equipped with 100% smart meters, allowing businesses to monitor electricity consumption in real time.
The largest share of electricity demand came from the B3 tariff category, which includes industries with connected loads between 501 kilowatts and 5,000 kilowatts, including cement, steel and textile manufacturers.
On a monthly basis, industrial electricity consumption peaked in June 2026, followed by April 2026.
Industrial electricity consumption had remained subdued after FY22 due to economic headwinds. However, demand rebounded in FY26 as industries consumed 6.08 billion units, up from 5.04 billion units in FY25, supported by stronger economic growth and the government's policy encouraging industries to shift from captive power generation to the national grid.
During the fiscal year, K-Electric energized 349 new industrial connections, while 273 existing industrial customers expanded their electricity load, adding a combined 168 megawatts of demand to the grid.
The utility said industrial customers continue to maintain one of the highest bill recovery rates across all consumer categories, enabling uninterrupted and load-shedding-exempt electricity supply to the sector. K-Electric said it will continue working to provide reliable power despite operational constraints to support Karachi's industrial and economic activity.
