Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized the importance of unity among member nations, urging them to set aside political differences and work collectively for the growth of cricket across the continent.
"To all the members present here today, thank you. Your presence means a great deal to me. It’s not just about attending; it’s about coming together with a shared purpose. As we have discussed we must put aside political differences and work together solely for the betterment of cricket. I am confident that, united, we can achieve this," Naqvi said.
Naqvi was addressing a reception hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in honor of the ACC members and the national teams of Pakistan and Bangladesh on Wednesday night in Dhaka.
He underscored the need to strengthen ties among cricketing nations in Asia.
"We are more than just individual cricket boards. We are a family of cricketing nations. We must support and uplift each other because when one of us wins we all win," Naqvi remarked.
Collaborative efforts
Naqvi also called for collaborative efforts to expand the reach of cricket throughout Asia.
"Let us work together to strengthen the Asian Cricket Council. Let us also provide meaningful support to our associate members so they can build competitive teams. Strong teams will lead to strong competitions and ultimately a stronger cricket market in Asia. As ACC President I assure you that we will take every necessary step to make this council the most dynamic and influential body in Asian sports," he asserted.
He stressed the importance of developing the game in emerging cricket nations.
"We must focus on expanding cricket in countries where the game is still developing. This cannot be achieved individually. We must move forward as a team," said Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Reflecting on the significance of the gathering he said, "Today’s meeting marks a historic moment, the first Annual General Meeting held in Bangladesh with a majority of ACC members present here in Dhaka. I extend my heartfelt thanks for the warm hospitality and the excellent arrangements. This event would not have been possible without the committed efforts of the Bangladesh Cricket Board."
He offered special appreciation to Aminul Islam, the BCB chief, whose efforts were central to organizing the event.
"A special word of gratitude goes to Aminul Bai whose tireless work, day and night, ensured the success of this gathering. The ACC has been in constant communication with him and his team in recent days, and I truly appreciate their dedication and professionalism," he said.
Naqvi also expressed condolences to the people of Bangladesh following the recent tragic plane crash.
"First and foremost, I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Bangladesh over the tragic crash that claimed 31 lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and the entire nation during this difficult time," he said.
He congratulated the BCB on their recent cricketing success.
"On a more uplifting note, I would like to congratulate the Bangladesh Cricket Board on their recent series victory, a proud achievement that reflects the strength and potential of Bangladesh cricket," he added.
