Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday approved a reduction of PKR 4.0349 per unit for K-Electric (KE) consumers under the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for April 2025. The relief will be applied to customer bills in July 2025.
The adjustment follows KE’s petition for April’s FCA and reflects lower global fuel costs and a favorable generation mix. Fuel charge adjustments, reviewed monthly by NEPRA, account for fluctuations in fuel prices and are passed onto consumers after regulatory approval.
According to NEPRA’s official notification, the FCA relief will apply to all categories except lifeline users, protected domestic consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and those on prepaid tariffs.
NEPRA also provisionally withheld PKR 0.8 billion from KE's adjustment claims related to partial load operations, open-cycle inefficiencies, degradation curves, and start-up costs. This amount will be settled against KE’s pending claims to avoid future consumer burden.
“Such provisional retention ensures that the relief provided now does not become a liability later,” NEPRA noted in its decision.
The authority emphasized that all FCA adjustments are made following detailed scrutiny to maintain transparency and protect consumer interests.
