On 11 April 2006, during a peaceful 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal gathering at Nishtar Park in Karachi, Pakistan witnessed one of its deadliest terrorist attacks. A suicide bomber struck the event, killing over 61 people and injuring more than 200 others, many of them religious scholars and prominent Sunni leaders.
