Pakistan's leading Exploration and Production (E&P), Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), has announced a gas discovery from the Shahu-I well at the Sawan South block in Sindh province.

The well is estimated to produce gas at a rate of approximately 10 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD). According to a company filing, this discovery has de-risked further exploration plays in the Sawan South block and will contribute towards improving the country's energy security from indigenous resources, adding to Pakistan's hydrocarbon reserves.

This is not the first find for the Sawan South joint venture, as it recently announced a similar 10 MMSCFD gas discovery at the Akhiro-1 exploratory well in Sindh last month.

The Sawan South joint venture includes Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) with a 20% working interest, United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) as the operator with 75%, Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) with 2.5%, and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL) also holding 2.5%.

The Sawan South block discoveries are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing Pakistan's energy infrastructure, reducing the country's reliance on imported fuels, and providing a steady supply of natural gas to meet domestic demand.
