Pakistan has approved a 250% security risk allowance for police and administrative officers serving in 26 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa designated as "terror-struck and seriously disturbed" areas, the government said.
The federal Establishment Division issued the order to address heightened security risks amid an ongoing militant threat in the province.
What is the new security risk allowance for KP officials?
The allowance will apply to officers of the Pakistan Administrative Service and Police Service of Pakistan, calculated at 250% of an officer's running basic pay.
It takes effect retrospectively from July 1, 2026, with the federal government covering the full cost.

The designated districts span six administrative regions, including Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Malakand.

Which districts are excluded from the allowance?
The notification specifies that Swabi and the eight districts of the Hazara Division are excluded from the scheme.
These include Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kolai-Palas, Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan.
When does the allowance stop and how is it reviewed?
The allowance will end when an officer is transferred out of a designated district, though it will remain payable during sanctioned leave, except extraordinary leave.
The federal government will review the list of eligible districts at the start of each financial year, allowing the designated areas to be revised according to the prevailing security situation.
