In the first half of fiscal year 2026, Pakistan issued PKR 1.412 trillion in agricultural loans, with the number of borrowers rising to 2.97 million, State Bank of Pakistan officials said during the Agricultural Credit Advisory Committee (ACAC) meeting chaired by Governor Jameel Ahmad.
The central bank also reported that a record PKR 2.58 trillion in agricultural loans was distributed in fiscal year 2025, a 16% increase from the previous year.
Governor Ahmad emphasized expanding access to credit through the Zarkhez-e scheme, aimed at supporting farmers and increasing loan uptake.
The ACAC discussed promoting electronic warehouse receipt financing to boost post-harvest liquidity. The system is designed to reduce forced crop sales and strengthen connections within agricultural markets.
Highlighting the broader economy, the governor said Pakistan has regained macroeconomic stability. GDP grew 3.7% in the first quarter of FY26, with projections of 3.75-4.75% for the full year. Inflation eased to 5.8% in January, he noted.
