Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in Iran, calling for restraint, dialogue, and respect for international law to prevent further instability in the region.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council briefing under the agenda item “The Situation in the Middle East (Iran),” Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said Islamabad is closely monitoring developments in Iran and the wider region. He warned that emerging threats pose serious risks to both regional and international peace and stability.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that Iran is an immediate neighbor and a “brotherly country” of Pakistan, highlighting the deep historical, cultural, religious, and friendly ties between the two nations.

He expressed hope for an early normalization of the situation in Iran and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining regional peace and stability.

“A stable and peaceful Iran is in the interest of Pakistan, the region, and beyond,” he said, adding that Pakistan has full confidence in the wisdom and resilience of the Iranian people and leadership to address the challenges facing their country.

Adherence to international law

The Pakistani envoy underscored the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, stressing that it prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states, as well as interference in their internal affairs.

He said any external interference in the domestic affairs of states is inconsistent with international law.

Ambassador Ahmad reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position that all disputes must be resolved through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.

He warned that continued hostilities, unilateral actions, or the use of force would only aggravate the situation and lead to unnecessary humanitarian suffering.

Call for restraint

Calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, the ambassador urged responsible behavior and strict adherence to international law to avoid actions detrimental to regional and global peace and security.

He stressed that diplomacy and dialogue must remain the guiding principles for resolving disputes and achieving negotiated settlements.

Pakistan, he noted, has consistently advocated the primacy of diplomatic engagement and the need to avoid confrontation in a region already beset by heightened tensions.

Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Ahmad expressed hope that calm and normalcy would soon return to Iran, free from internal turmoil and external pressure, and that all relevant parties would return to the negotiating table to find a lasting solution based on mutual respect and understanding.
