Pakistan, Kuwait agree to deepen cooperation across trade, energy and defense

Pakistan and Kuwait agreed on Wednesday to expand cooperation across trade, investment, energy, labor, agriculture, information technology, health, mining and defense.

The agreement followed high-level talks in Islamabad aimed at strengthening longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.

What was agreed between Pakistan and Kuwait?

Pakistan and Kuwait committed to broadening cooperation across nine sectors, including trade, energy and defense, through delegation-level talks in Islamabad. The discussions were co-chaired by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The talks were held at Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to Pakistan's Foreign Office, the ministers reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen economic ties. They focused on stronger institutional linkages, greater commercial engagement and regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.

What else did the two countries discuss?

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination at regional and international forums on issues of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Palestine.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to its longstanding relationship with Kuwait. He said Islamabad remained keen to further broaden mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple sectors.

How did Kuwait respond to the talks?

Kuwait's foreign minister thanked the Pakistani government and people for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan's support to Kuwait during the COVID-19 pandemic and praised Pakistan's constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

The talks formed part of Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's official visit to Pakistan. Both countries said the visit was aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest.
