Power utility K-Electric (KE) has announced that it will be disconnecting power supply to Pakistan Railways due to unpaid dues amounting to PKR 430 million.

The power utility company has been trying to recover the outstanding amount from Pakistan Railways since May against 31 connections. Despite repeated notices and warnings, the railway authorities have failed to settle their dues, according to the statement released by KE.

"We have been left with no choice but to disconnect power supply to Pakistan Railways," said a KE spokesperson. "We cannot continue to provide electricity to consumers who do not pay their bills."

The move is expected to cause significant disruptions to Pakistan Railways' operations, including delays and cancellations of train services.

Pakistan Railways has been facing financial difficulties in recent years, and the unpaid dues to KE are just one of many financial challenges the organization is facing.

The development has raised concerns about the financial management of state-owned enterprises in Pakistan and the need for greater accountability and transparency in their operations.

KE has assured its customers that it will continue to work with Pakistan Railways to find a solution to the issue, but emphasized that it cannot continue to provide free electricity to anyone.
