Pakistan is facilitating the repatriation of 30 Iranian nationals through Karachi, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Wednesday.

The arrangement involves two separate maritime incidents and coordination with Iranian, US and British authorities. Pakistan said it was "pleased" to assist in what officials described as a humanitarian effort.

Who are the 30 Iranian nationals Pakistan is repatriating?

The group consists of two sets of individuals from separate maritime incidents. Eight are Iranian fishermen rescued at sea by the British vessel MMA Valour after their boat ran aground.

The remaining 22 are crew members from the vessel Lenore/Davina, intercepted by US authorities in a separate maritime operation.

What role is Pakistan playing in the repatriation?

Pakistani authorities are coordinating with counterparts in Iran, the United States and the United Kingdom to manage transit arrangements and ensure the safe return of all 30 individuals.

The nationals are expected to transit through Karachi in the coming days before being returned to Iran, according to officials familiar with the arrangements.

How does this fit Pakistan's broader humanitarian role?

Pakistan has periodically assisted in the repatriation of foreign nationals caught in maritime incidents in recent years. Officials framed the latest facilitation as part of the country's commitment to humanitarian principles and regional stability.

The coordination across three countries reflects Pakistan's ongoing engagement with international partners on maritime safety matters.
