Pakistan is set to revive its offshore exploration efforts after nearly two decades, with a seismic vessel operated by Turkish Petroleum Offshore Company (TPOC) expected to arrive in Karachi between November 17 and 20.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the vessel’s arrival and the commencement of its offshore exploration campaign.

The minister described the development as a milestone in Pakistan-Türkiye relations, particularly following the signing of the Mecca Agreement, and said it marked a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries.

“This is a special moment for Pakistan-Türkiye friendship. I will try to personally receive the vessel upon its arrival in Karachi,” Malik said.

He said the government was committed to facilitating the initiative and ensuring that all necessary arrangements were in place for the successful start of operations. Malik assured the Turkish delegation of Pakistan’s support and said both countries would work together to achieve a successful outcome.

The Secretary Petroleum also welcomed the upcoming arrival, stressing the need for coordination among relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure smooth arrangements.

TPOC’s project manager appreciated the support extended by Pakistani authorities and expressed confidence in the project, saying the team had received encouraging cooperation and hoped for a successful exploration campaign.

The meeting reviewed operational, logistical, maritime, security and interdepartmental arrangements for the vessel’s arrival and the start of offshore exploration activities aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s energy security. Relevant departments were directed to maintain close coordination to ensure timely facilitation.

The meeting was attended by TPOC’s project manager, Secretary Petroleum, Additional Secretary Petroleum, Director General Petroleum Concessions, managing directors of OGDCL, PPL and GHPL, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Hydrographic Office Pakistan (NAVAREA IX), Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Board of Investment and Directorate General Ports and Shipping.

The arrival of the Turkish vessel is expected to mark a step towards restarting Pakistan’s offshore exploration activities and expanding energy cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye.
