A court in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, granted pre-arrest bail on Tuesday to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in six cases and to his wife, Bushra Bibi, in one case.
The decision was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka, who approved the bail applications with surety bonds of PKR 50,000 each.
The court granted bail to both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipts case. Imran Khan’s bail was also confirmed in a separate case registered at Karachi Company Police Station related to the May 9, 2023 riots.
Additionally, the court approved his bail in the attempted murder case of former Minister of State Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha. Imran Khan also received bail in two cases registered at Kohsar Police Station connected to the Azadi March 2023 protest. He was further granted bail in a case concerning alleged defamatory remarks against key public figures.
In a separate hearing, Bushra Bibi was granted relief in a case linked to PTI protests. The hearing was presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Amir Zia. Barrister Salman appeared on her behalf, while the prosecution opposed the bail plea.
The court approved Bushra Bibi’s bail in the case registered at Ramna Police Station, with a surety bond of PKR 50,000. She faces charges in connection with the PTI's Nov. 24, 2024 protest case at the same police station.
