The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has urged India to openly share any reservations regarding their participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan starting February 9.

Speaking to the media on Monday at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi assured that the PCB is willing to address any concerns raised by India.

“We are ready to address India’s concerns. There is no valid reason for them to avoid participating in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” Naqvi said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently informed the PCB that the Indian government has not granted the BCCI clearance for the Indian team to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

In response, the PCB has demanded official written communication from the ICC, outlining the reasons for India’s reluctance to come to Pakistan.

“We have written a letter to the ICC and are waiting for its reply. We are only communicating with the ICC,” Naqvi said.

Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan is prepared to host the tournament with all other participating nations confirming their readiness to play in the country.

Commenting on the broader implications, Naqvi highlighted the importance of separating sports from politics.

“I firmly believe that sports and politics should not intersect. I remain optimistic regarding the Champions Trophy,” he said.

When asked if the ICC was aligning with India’s stance, Naqvi stressed the governing body’s responsibility to uphold its credibility.

“The ICC represents cricket boards worldwide. It must act impartially and transparently,” he said.

Naqvi disclosed that the PCB is awaiting the ICC’s official announcement of the Champions Trophy schedule to finalize logistical arrangements.

“We are waiting for the ICC to confirm the schedule so we can proceed with our preparations,” he added.

Aaqib Javed named interim white-ball coach

Addressing coaching matters, Naqvi confirmed that Aaqib has been appointed as the interim head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball team until the Champions Trophy.

“It’s not suitable to bring in another coach in a haste. Aqib has graciously accepted our request to guide the team during this critical period,” Naqvi revealed.

He acknowledged the urgency of finding a permanent coach but emphasized the importance of careful selection.

“We’ll begin the process of hiring a full-time white-ball coach in the next 10 to 15 days to ensure we make the right choice,” he said.

Gaddafi Stadium renovation on track

Naqvi also provided updates on the ongoing renovations at Gaddafi Stadium, assuring that the upgrades will be completed well ahead of schedule.

After inspecting the venue, he expressed confidence in meeting the deadlines.

“We are ahead of schedule. The pavilions and secretariat will be ready on time, ensuring the venue is fully prepared for the Champions Trophy,” he concluded.
