UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the escalating Iran conflict and broader regional developments in a phone call on Tuesday.

During the conversation, both leaders stressed the need for a swift end to hostilities and called for intensified political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully, while respecting the legitimate interests of all regional states, WAM reported.

They also highlighted the strength of bilateral ties, noting with “particular satisfaction” the steady growth of cooperation and high-level contacts between Russia and the UAE across multiple sectors.

The regional escalation has intensified since the United States and Israel launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, with more than 1,340 people reported killed, including Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties, damaging infrastructure, and disrupting global markets and aviation.
