Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has gifted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a pair of handcrafted Peshawari chappals, a timeless symbol of Pakistani craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
The footwear, known for its durability and comfort, was specially crafted by Jahanzaib Khan, a renowned artisan from Peshawar, following a direct order from the Prime Minister’s House.
Handmade masterpiece for a ‘global leader’
Khan, who has spent years perfecting the art of shoemaking, revealed that Erdogan had expressed his desire to own a pair of Peshawari chappals during his last visit to Pakistan.
"One slipper is maroon, the other is grey. We used high-quality Italian leather, and everything is completely handmade," he said.
Khan described Erdogan as a “global leader for Muslims”, saying it was an honor to craft something unique for him.
Gift beyond diplomacy
This special gift underscores the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Turkey, reflecting a bond that extends beyond politics and diplomacy into shared history, culture, and tradition.
Peshawari chappals have long been a favorite among world leaders and celebrities, celebrated for their blend of elegance and tradition. With this gesture, Pakistan’s centuries-old craftsmanship takes center stage on the international platform once again.
