The UAE’s GITEX 2025 showcase highlights its drive to lead regional digital transformation.
Gulf News
The United Arab Emirates has unveiled some of its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies yet at GITEX Global 2025, showcasing how the country’s digital transformation strategy is reshaping governance, public safety, and citizen services, Gulf News reported.
On the opening day of the exhibition, leading government entities, including the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Police, presented AI-driven systems designed to make everyday life faster, safer, and more connected — from drones that reach emergencies within a minute to virtual agents resolving customer queries in seconds.
DEWA introduced new features within its customer app powered by AI-based virtual assistants that allow residents to pay bills, report issues, or even listen to press updates through voice interaction. “Customers can now explain their problem to the digital agent, and it immediately provides the solution,” said Khalid Bin Kalban, Manager of Artificial Intelligence at DEWA.
The initiative has cut service times from days to seconds, significantly improving customer satisfaction. DEWA has also developed over 300 internal “copilot” agents to help staff automate daily tasks — part of its goal to become the world’s first fully AI-driven digital utility under Dubai’s Digital Strategy 2030.
If DEWA’s project shows AI’s impact on convenience, Dubai Police’s innovations demonstrate its potential in public safety. The force unveiled Dubiometrics, a home-grown biometric system that extends beyond traditional facial or fingerprint recognition to include gait, ear shape, hand geometry, and body proportions.
“We needed multiple biometric indicators to identify suspects even in difficult conditions — in the dark or when they’re masked,” explained Dr. Hamad Mansoor Al Awar, Acting Director of the International Center for Forensic Sciences.
The system complements Dubai’s expanding AI surveillance infrastructure, which already supports predictive policing and smart patrols.
Another highlight was the police’s drone box initiative - part of its “first responder” program. The network of autonomous drones, stationed across key areas, can reach incident sites within a minute, transmitting live footage to command centers before patrols arrive. According to Engineer Mohammed Omar Al Muhairi, Head of the Unmanned Aerial System Center, the drones have already reduced emergency response times by over 30%.
From utility management to public safety, the UAE’s latest AI showcase at GITEX 2025 underscores its ambition to lead the region’s digital transformation - turning futuristic concepts into everyday reality.
